I struggled with this one. I’ve realized I’m really not a fan of romance books, but since most of my TBR stack is filled with them, I pushed through. This book reminded me exactly why I don’t enjoy typical romances.
The story follows Tate and Miles, who agree to a “no strings attached” fling. The only reason I kept reading was the suspense surrounding Miles’ past – I was hoping for a huge plot twist. Of course, Tate ends up breaking their agreement (though she only has herself to blame) because, predictably, she falls in love with Miles, after the man establishes boundaries.
Other than that, there isn’t much to the story – just Tate wallowing over Miles, Miles, and more Miles. The only part I actually enjoyed was uncovering the truth about Miles’ past. It was gut-wrenching, so much so that my stomach turned – it was genuinely sad. At least the book delivered a happy ending, even if predictable.
What really pulled me out of the story, though, was the heavy dose of erotica. I found myself intentionally skipping PAGES and PAGES, because I just don’t enjoy it. The part where Miles and Tate gloss over their son’s genitalia especially left me questioning the depth and direction of the book. Honestly, I couldn’t help but wonder – what was I even reading?
