Skincare Ingredients to look out for

As a young girl my mommy taught me it’s important to cleanse your face, so she picked out an age appropriate facial cleanser for me – Ponds. Now luckily enough I never had skin issues as a teenager – except for those once a month pimples. But having sensitive skin was never a problem until I turned 18. I noticed that almost every winter I’d have huge acne breakouts, but after a while my skin would clear up. It was once upon a time that I looked into the mirror and cried at the volcanoes on my face, and then decided to take better care of my skin.

Before jumping online and wasting money on trending skincare products, I had to learn my skin type. There’s lots of skin types such as normal, oily, dry, combination etc. So I learned that my skin type changes with the seasons. I’m usually oily in summer and dry in winter, the rest is usually a combination of both.

We all want healthy, glowing skin and protection from acne and wrinkles. So whatever skin type you have, you’d want to incorporate only the healthiest aids to your skin. So what ingredients in skincare products or home remedies are we really looking for?

Vitamin C: As you’d know, Vitamin C is a vitamin found in citrus fruits and it is my absolute favorite. It promotes firmer texture of the skin, decreasing the risk of wrinkles. Who doesn’t want supple skin? After regular use you’d notice a brightness in the skin as well, like an actual glow. It can help brighten dark spots, (not make them go away completely) but definitely take a few layers off. The product I’ve been using is the Garner SkinActive Even & Matte Vitamin C Booster Serum. Application feels like velvet on my skin. The glow is real, it’s like magic in a 15ml bottle.

Hyaluronic Acid – Known for its ability to deeply hydrate the skin. Dehydrated skin can produce excess oils leading to breakouts. A hydrated skin improves elasticity, promotes fewer wrinkles and fewer acne breakouts. Since I’ve been coping with dry skin, my Roman empire is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser paired with the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer. The active ingredient of hyaluronic acid seems to prevent pimples, which is my priority, usually. It also makes my skin feel tighter and younger.

Benzoyl peroxide – This ingredient is an antiseptic, known to treat acne. It reduces the amount of bacteria on the skin, preventing acne breakouts and slowing down irritation of the skin. The treatment I’ve been using is called Benzac. It’s a topical treatment that should only be applied to affected areas. This product works wonders on my acne, there’s visible improvement after 3 days. The only pain point I have with it, is that it dries up and burns my skin. Benzoyl peroxide is a highly chemical compound, that’s why it works so well and also why it seems too good to be true. The withered skin usually goes down after a few days, but the acne treatment definitely works as it’s marketed. To combat the dried skin, I add a layer of Vaseline to lock in moisture. After maybe a week of Benzac, I see noticeable improvements in my skin.

I’d hope these could be of great use to you, but remember that everyone is different and we all react differently to certain ingredients. Just because these ingredients work for me doesn’t necessarily mean it would work for you. Your skin type is truly your own and something you’d need to learn about, what works for you and what doesn’t. If shelf products don’t work for you, maybe home remedies would. But this all falls under the roof of learning about your specific skin type. Happy treatments!

This way, you stay safe and avoid all third-party scammers. When you create your own account, you have control and can follow the rules. Buying from others can lead to problems like account bans or scams. So, be careful and choose to set up your own account to keep your business safe!
